週末 Tokyo Weekends
There are moments when I get a little cocky and feel like I have explored my fair share of Tokyo city, but those moments are especially fleeting when I decide to venture out on a sunny weekend like this one. This city is vast and so jam packed full of surprises and hidden gems that it’s impossible (and inexcusable) to ever allow boredom to set in.
On this particular Sunday, my partner Adam and I chose to head out to two areas called Akihabara and Asakusa. Both areas are incredibly different from one another, Akihabara being famously known as the technology/gadget mecca and Asakusa for its old style tokyo city feel and beautiful Buddhist temple, Sensoji.
From gaming arcades, cosplay dress ups, maid cafes, and gadgets galore, Akihabara is like a tech geek’s paradise, and my partner Adam could easily get lost for hours exploring. On the other hand I am a complete novice when it comes to this part of Tokyo, but I find myself completely fascinated by the entire culture. If like me, gadgets and anime aren’t particularly your ‘thing’ you’ll get to Asakusa and feel more at home. I never get tired of revisiting this place as it’s remarkable to suddenly find yourself in a bygone era, a place so beautifully preserved and steeped in Japanese traditional culture.
I could go on and on, trying my best to describe in vain what it’s like to spend a typical leisurely Sunday exploring a little piece of Tokyo, but sometimes, it’s better just to show you!
